125 Years of Service

Burkhart is celebrating 125 years of serving dentists. Here are a few more things that were happening in 1888.

  • The National Geographic Society is founded.
  • Berta Benz drives 40 miles in the car of Karl Benz – the first long distance drive in a car.
  • George Eastman forms Kodak and registers the patent for the roll film camera.
  • The Washington Monument opens to the public.
  • Benjamin Harrison wins the Presidential election.
  • Vincent Van Gogh cuts off his ear.
  • Thomas Edison files the patent for the Optical Phonograph – the first movie.
  • The patent for the ballpoint pen is filed by John Loud.
  • The USC Methodists play their first football game – before they were known as the Trojans.
