Thank you for calling Burkhart Customer Service…

Hi all! My name is Marissa Nelson. I have been working at Burkhart since August 2011, in the Customer Service department.  This is my first blog post so go easy on me, but I think you are going to love it!

I recently realized that I’ve probably wrongly assumed that ALL of you know those of us in Customer Service as well as we do. Probably not the case, right? So, with that said, I will be featuring one customer service rep a week until you’ve gotten to know each of us.

So, first up…..

Jim Beale

Here is a little background on how Jim found his dental calling:

“It all started with a flip of a coin.” –Jim

In 1974, a friend told Jim that Healthco Dental was hiring. Jim and another friend, Hinny Sykes, went down to Healthco ready to work. The owner told them he only needed one guy and for them to figure it out, and with a flip of a coin the journey began. A few years later, an old co-worker called Jim and convinced him to leave Healthco for another dental company, Patterson Dental. After working at Patterson in Houston for 2 years, a young Jim Beale decided to move to Oxnard, CA. In CA, Jim worked for Posey Dental, until moving back to Houston in ’81, again with Patterson Dental. Eventually, Jim relocated to Oklahoma City as the merchandise manager, still with Patterson Dental. In ’86, Jim made the switch to Reeve Dental, which was acquired by Burkhart in 1998. Jim became a Burkhart associate February 1, 1998. Jim said, “It wasn’t until Bernie McNickle (Reeve owner) retired and sold his business to Perry Burkhart, that I found my final home in dental.”

My interview with Jim:

Q: What is your most embarrassing moment?
A: One time at Reeve, I was on the phone but didn’t know it was on intercom and was being broadcasted through the entire building. I was talking to the attractive, new sales girl (I can’t remember her name, but Michael Burleson will know) and I was asking her out. Bernie, the owner, along with everyone else in the building heard and laughed.

Q: Did she say yes?
A: I don’t kiss and tell

Q: If you could tell your 16-year-old self one thing, what would it be?
A: Start saving now

Q: List 3 random facts about yourself:
A: 1) I shot craps with Billy Gibbons, of ZZ Top, at the MGM Grand in Reno
2) I got to see the OK Sooners beat the WA Huskies at Husky Stadium in 2008 (side note: don’t hold it against Jim that he is a Sooners fan)
3) If I could have dinner with any one person, it would be Toby Keith.
