Legacy

It has been a year ago I started with this wonderful company!  Since day one, people always hear me talking about “legacy”.  What is your legacy a year from now?  5 years from now? 25 years from now?  How will people talk about and view you?  What will you legacy be with Burkhart?  In the community? With your peers in the industry?  Here is a inspirational story about Legacy… (interestingly enough, this event happened the same year our company started)

In 1888,  a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror, read his name in the obituary column. The news papers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock.  When he regained his composure, his second thought was to find out what people had said about him. The obituary called him     “…the merchant of death..” and described him as a man “…who became rich from finding ways to kill people faster than ever before…”  This man was the inventor of dynamite.  As he read the headline of “Dynamite King Dies” and the words “merchant of death,” he asked himself a question, “Is this how I am going to be remembered?  Is this going to be my legacy?”  He looked deep inside and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. From that day forward, he devoted his life on working toward peace and the betterment of humanity.  This man was Alfred Nobel and today is remembered for the annual Nobel Peace Prize.
